Dragonfly Lodge
Dragonfly Lodge is the result of a client’s vision and desire to have a home that reflected a casual lifestyle, void of excess and layers of meaningless details, a home that has clean lines, useful spaces, natural materials and easy to live in. What resulted was inspired by its natural surroundings, allowing for a 360 degree view of mountains, valley, water and wildlife.
This 3,000-square-foot design incorporates varying ceiling heights and beam configurations to help define rooms in the absence of walls, as well as sight lines that pull your eye toward different focal points all around the property. The stunning white pine timber frame was planned very carefully, incorporating a hybrid of conventional construction methods combined with timber-frame elements.
Modern Rustic Retreat
The lines between indoors and out are easily blurred, especially when it comes to the living porch. The porch is so comfortable, it tends to attract more than just human visitors dragonflies appeared so regularly on the property during construction that the owners decided to name their new home “Dragonfly Lodge”.
Tucked into its natural setting, this home exemplifies a thoughtful balance between simplicity and craftsmanship. Designed to feel effortless and inviting, it uses honest materials, open sight lines, and well-proportioned spaces to create a strong connection to the landscape. Every detail supports comfortable living while celebrating light, views, and a quiet, modern rustic character.
Dedicated to their craft. The team at Modern Rustic was very creative as well as being open to our vision of the project. The finished home is absolutely stunning both in design and quality of construction. I would highly recommend the team at Modern Rustic Homes for any custom build.

North Georgia Log Home,
The “Dragonfly” home is a versatile, two-story plan intentionally designed to provide single-level living for soon-to-be retirees, though its four-bedroom, three-and-a-half-bath layout appeals to home buyers of any age. The plan originated from clients who wanted a house that accommodated their daily needs and their desire to host friends and family for extended visits.
This versatility and comfortable, cozy, “human scale” design have made the Dragonfly one of Modern Rustic Homes’ most popular plans, successfully adapted in diverse locations like Montana, Pennsylvania, Georgia, and Tennessee.
Key Architectural and Design Highlights:
Open Concept Living: The living porch, great room, dining area, and kitchen combine to form one wide-open area. Twelve-foot-wide sliding doors adjacent to the porch can be opened to double the usable space for entertaining.
Efficient Layout: The design avoids excess square footage by eliminating hallways, and the linear design affords natural light from both sides. The communal spaces separate the master suite and first-floor guest bedrooms to enhance privacy.
Indoor/Outdoor Focus: The entry is offset from the great room, directing the eye toward the screened-in porch and uninterrupted views, making nature the focal point. The plan includes a screened-in “living porch” and a small, private porch for each bedroom.
Flexible Spaces: The second level includes a library/loft (which can serve as a playroom or office) and one of the four bedrooms. Two huge attics offer an abundance of storage or can support extra finished living space.
Style and Materials: The house blends synthetic and natural materials to create a rustic Craftsman style.
